Waddle-on-Sea – created by Havens Hospices and Wild in Art – will see more than 31 super-sized penguin sculptures and 72 baby sculptures dotted around the city from Friday 11 July to Wednesday 3 September, including Leigh-on-Sea.
The concrete plinths, which cost approximately £4,505 to manufacture, will keep the huddle firmly on the ground in their temporary homes for the duration of the trail. They have been kindly donated by Forterra, who specialise in creating building products made from clay and concrete.
Vanessa Harvey from Havens Hospices says, “We are incredibly grateful to Forterra for creating the bespoke plinths especially for the trail. Thanks to their kind donation, the sculptures look amazing and are standing proud. We can’t wait for everyone to meet them”
The penguins were manoeuvred onto their plinths and information stickers were added on by the ‘Penguin Patrol’ and sponsors of Waddle-on-Sea, Revive Digital, BTMK, Rickard Luckin and Rossi’s.
In September, the large sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for the charity, Havens Hospices, which provides specialist care and support for people of all ages who are living with incurable conditions and their families.
Once the trail goes live, trail-goers can purchase a map from any Havens Hospices charity shop and other venues, including the Pier Information Centre, The Forum, Leigh-on-Sea Library and Waddle-on-Sea HQs at The Royals Shopping Centre and 141 Leigh Road. There is also a ‘Waddle-on-Sea’ app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support for people of all ages who are living with incurable conditions and their families, where and when they need it. This care is provided absolutely free of charge and is only made possible thanks to donations and fundraising initiatives such as Waddle-on-Sea.
