Take a look around Little Havens

Little Havens is a hospice set in beautiful meadowland in Rayleigh, Essex. We are a nursing-led hospice with a mixture of qualified paediatric nurses, healthcare support staff and trained volunteers.

Forget your preconceptions of a hospice, working at Havens Hospices is a unique opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team where you can help us continue ‘Making every day count’.

The different vacancies will require different levels of qualification and experience, depending on the Band and whether it is for children or adult nursing. All the requirements are set out in the job description.

Our Mission is to offer the best possible palliative and supportive care, free from fear and barriers, where the patient and those important to them are always put first.

We do this by focusing on a patient’s quality of life, caring for individual physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. We also support the family, and what’s important to them, ‘Making every day count.’

The patient and those important to them always come first.  There is time to really be with your patients.  Staff ratios are high to enable time and space for people to explore their thoughts, feelings and wishes before they die.

We expect all our nursing staff to display the 6 C’s of Nursing, and live the Values of Havens Hospices of Care and Compassion, Commitment, Community, Courage and Integrity.

No two days will be the same.  You will be an excellent communicator and display compassion and care in all you do.

Our nursing positions may be based at our hospices, Little Havens in Thundersley or Fair Havens in Southend. We also offer community nursing, caring for patients in their own home which requires travel – across Essex for children and young people, and across Southend, Castle Point and Rochford for adults.

There may be occasions where you are redeployed to another care service within Havens Hospices. We will never ask you to work outside your scope of practice.

There is the opportunity to develop your clinical skills.  We have a Learning and Development department, education budget, with adult and paediatric Practice Facilitators.

We can support you with training in assessment and diagnostic skills, and non-medical prescribing.  We have apprenticeship routes for training and have supported people through their BSc in Palliative Care and MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
