Michael Raffan is a solicitor with more than 30 years’ experience advising some of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions on complex regulatory and governance matters.
Michael has spent his entire career at international law firm Freshfields, where he has been a partner since 2001. Throughout his career, he has developed deep expertise in navigating highly regulated environments and supporting organisations to operate effectively and responsibly.
Michael is known for working closely with clients to help them understand regulatory requirements, manage risk and find practical solutions to challenging issues. Alongside his legal practice, Michael is a Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee, providing insight and expertise on financial services regulation at a national level.
Born and raised in Southend, Michael now lives in Westcliff with his wife, and they have three grown-up children and one granddaughter. He has long been a supporter of Havens Hospices and, when the opportunity arose to stand as a Trustee, he was keen to contribute his skills and experience to support the charity’s work.
In addition to his professional role, Michael is also a Trustee and Chair of HARP, Southend’s homeless charity, bringing valuable governance experience and a strong commitment to supporting local communities.
