Alan Flay joined Havens Hospices in early 2020 and is the Head of IT and Compliance, which supports colleagues with IT, Information Governance and Data Protection requirements.
The team’s main day-to-day priorities are ensuring the IT equipment & systems are available, fit for purpose, and remain resilient and secure whilst providing a high-quality support function when and where required.
Initially beginning his IT career in 1995, Alan has a wealth of knowledge in IT support, installation, infrastructure and servers, project management and information governance, including GDPR, after overseeing its introduction at his former workplace when it came into effect in May 2018.
In 2015 Alan’s mum was referred to Fair Havens for end of life care following a cancer diagnosis.
He says, “I was blown away by the way that she, and us as a family, were welcomed, respected, supported and treated by everyone we came into contact with. I know my mum was comfortable and at peace, and she couldn’t have been in a better place.”
Alan was so impressed with the care his mum and family received that he wanted to give back to the charity and make a real difference using his skills and knowledge. So, when the perfect role appeared in late 2019, he jumped at the chance to work for the hospice.
