Thousands Raised at Gala Ball for Local Hospice Care

Havens Hospices’ annual Gala Ball raised an incredible £103K to support hundreds of local children, young people, and adults living with incurable conditions across Essex.

The glittering evening, held at the Cliffs Pavilion on Saturday 3rd May, featured a silent auction, raffle, and grand auction – all contributing to the phenomenal fundraising total.

Every penny will go towards providing free, specialist care within the home and at the charity’s two hospices, Fair Havens and Little Havens.

The night was dedicated to Jane Hopkins, a much-loved and dedicated member of the Havens Hospices Fundraising Team who had worked at the event many times over the years. Sadly, Jane was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2023, and Fair Havens, a cause that meant so much to her, was there for her and her family throughout her illness.

During the evening, Sherry Eaglestone, Head of Wellbeing and Community Engagement at Havens Hospices, delivered a heartfelt tribute. She shared how the care Jane had once championed became her own lifeline in her final months.

Sherry said, “Jane’s impact went far beyond fundraising. She truly believed in what Havens Hospices stood for and the cause. She championed the importance of hospice care. When Jane received news that none of us ever wants to face, she immediately found solace in knowing that Havens Hospices would be there for her, too.”

Entertainment for the night included a show-stopping performance by Britain’s Got Talent 2024 Finalists Northants Sings Out, whose powerful and uplifting songs inspired guests and set the tone for a memorable evening.

The night closed with an incredible set from the talented RePublic Band, who played a high-energy set for supporters to dance the night away to.

Wendy Hogarth, Philanthropy Manager and organiser of the Gala Ball, said: “Our Gala Ball is one of the highlights of the Havens Hospices calendar, and it’s made possible by so many special people and organisations.

“We’d like to thank our Patron, Su Harrison, for hosting, our headline sponsors Highview, our amazing performers, the team at the Cliffs Pavilion, our Auctioneer David Dedman– and of course, our supporters. Your generosity never ceases to amaze us. Thanks to you, our care can continue to reach more people who need us in our community.”
