Sandon Golf Society Raises Record £20,000 for Little Havens in Tribute to Founding Member

Members of the Sandon Golf Society recently visited Little Havens, the children’s hospice based in Benfleet, to see firsthand the difference their incredible fundraising has made over the years.

For the past 20 years, the Society has raised funds annually in support of the hospice, contributing an extraordinary £190,000 to help Little Havens continue its vital specialist care and support to children and families across Essex.

The highlight of the group’s fundraising calendar is always the Annual Golf Day, held at Braintree Golf Club. This year’s event was particularly special, dedicated to the memory of Gary Carlisle, one of the Society’s founding members and the driving force behind their long-standing commitment to Little Havens.

Gary sadly died in November last year, and the organising committee were determined that this year’s Golf Day would be the best yet – a true testament to Gary’s passion and generosity. Their efforts paid off, with the event raising a record-breaking £20,000, the largest single-year total in the Society’s history.

During their recent visit earlier this month, members of the Sandon Golf Society presented a cheque to the Little Havens team and enjoyed a tour of the hospice. They were deeply inspired by what they saw, commenting on the welcoming atmosphere, the beautiful grounds, and the wide range of services offered to children and their families.

Stuart Lund from the Society said: “Seeing firsthand the impact of our fundraising really brought home why we do this every year, Gary was always passionate about supporting Little Havens, and we’re proud to continue that legacy in his memory.”

Little Havens expressed their heartfelt thanks to the group for their ongoing support and generosity. Judy Grocott, Head of Fundraising at Havens Hospices, the charity which Little Havens is a part of added: “We are so grateful to the Sandon Golf Society for two decades of incredible commitment. Their efforts have made a huge difference to the lives of so many families who rely on our care.”
