Runners Flock to Chelmsford for Marathon and Half Marathon Fundraiser

The sound of people pounding the pavements rumbled through Chelmsford on Sunday 12th October as over 2,500 runners signed up for the Chelmsford Marathon and Half Marathon, showing support for Essex’s children’s hospice, Little Havens.

The event, sponsored by Countryside, now part of the Vistry Group, and L&Q’s flagship development, Beaulieu, brought together running enthusiasts from across the county and the country. Participants crossed the start and finish line in Central Park, completing either 13.1 or 26.2 miles through some of Chelmsford’s most scenic routes.

Over 700 more runners signed up for the races this year compared to 2024, making this year’s event the biggest to date, with the Half Marathon selling out ahead of race day.

By taking part, every runner helped raise tens of thousands of pounds for Little Havens, part of Havens Hospices, which provides specialist care and support for children and young people living with complex or incurable conditions – and their families – across Essex.

The fastest male to complete the Chelmsford Half Marathon was Martyn Bath, finishing in 1 hour, 11 minutes and 59 seconds, with Allana Falconer taking the title of fastest female in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 55 seconds. In the full Marathon, William Radley was the fastest male with a time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 24 seconds and Emma Prideaux was the fastest female, finishing in 3 hours, 8 minutes and 37 seconds.

This is the 10th Chelmsford Marathon that Countryside, part of Vistry Group, and L&Q’s Beaulieu development, have sponsored, having supported the event since its inception to coincide with the launch of its residential development Beaulieu in Chelmsford.

Martin Leach, Managing Director, Vistry Major Projects, said: “The Chelmsford Marathon and Half Marathon is a fantastic event for the Chelmsford community, and we are very pleased to continue our support of such a popular date in the Essex calendar.  The team at Little Havens does a fantastic job every year for a very worthy cause and we are very pleased to play a part in an event which has such a positive impact for young people and their families all across Essex.”

James Varley, Head of Development & Project Management at L&Q, said: “At L&Q, our social mission is to support the creation of neighbourhoods and communities we can all be proud of, and events like the Chelmsford Marathon and Half Marathon form an integral part of that commitment. We are humbled by the sense of community spirit and the support shown for Little Havens every year and we are proud to play our part for the event’s success since its very inception.”

Lucy Lock, Community Engagement Manager at Havens Hospices, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported this year’s Chelmsford Marathon – our biggest yet. From runners and volunteers to sponsors and spectators, every single person played a part in its success. A huge shout out to Essex and Suffolk Water for keeping our runners hydrated, The Gym Group Chelmsford, Good Gym Chelmsford, our volunteer pacers, 4site and the community and running groups that supported us on the day such as Chelmsford Ladies Circle, UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness & Endurance Event Group and the Summit Mentality Team.

“The funds raised from the event will help us continue providing essential, compassionate care for local children and young people living with complex or incurable conditions. With around 25% of the children we care for coming from the Mid Essex area, this event truly makes a difference within the local community.”
