The fun-filled event is held in Paglesham and organised in partnership with the Plough and Sail pub. After an action-packed day of clay pigeon shooting, the teams enjoyed food, an auction, a raffle, and a live band at the pub.
Since its inaugural event in 2003, the club has raised more than £375,000 for local charities, with more than £100,000 of this donated to Havens Hospices, which provides specialist care and support to people of all ages living with incurable conditions in the local community.
Stuart Greengrass from the Club said, “This year was the 20th charity clay shoot since we started in 2003 – unfortunately, we lost two years’ events due to COVID. However, after the pandemic, the fundraising from the shoot has bounced back, and despite the inclement weather, £24,000 was raised this year.
“This has only been possible due to the extraordinary generosity of our sponsors and all involved. It’s a great example of clay shooters putting something back into the community and having fun doing it”.
The excellence of the shooting was matched by the hospitality provided at The Plough and Sail by landlord Mark Oliver and his team. Mark commented “We choose local charities to raise money for, and our sponsors, helpers, charity teams and shooters can see how the money raised is used to do good in the community. We are a small club, so it is a huge team effort, but we get wonderful support and are really appreciative of all those who contributed”.
Lucy Lock, Community Engagement Manager at Havens Hospices said: “The wonderful support from our community never ceases to amaze us. It’s thanks to local clubs like the Paglesham Clay Pigeon Club that we can continue providing specialist care and support to the families that need us. Every pound raised over the past 20 years has truly made a difference to every baby, child and adult we care for across our two hospices Fair Havens and Little Havens.”
