Havens Hospices, which during the Coronavirus pandemic has been on the front line of supporting people with complex or incurable conditions and their families in Southend and the surrounding area, took the decision to postpone the trail back in March. The decision to move the trail was to ensure the safety of residents and tourists and to enable the Hospice to prioritise its patients and local people being diagnosed with complex or incurable conditions needing care and support during the pandemic.
The team are very excited to announce that the new trail will start on the 1st July 2021 for 10 weeks. Hares About Town is a spectacular public art event in partnership with Wild in Art where the streets of Southend will be brought alive with beautiful hare sculptures.
Louise Gloyne, Head of Philanthropy, Grants and Partnerships at Havens Hospices said: ‘It was obviously a huge disappointment to everyone involved but we plan to still make this incredible project come together. Everything is in place for this to be a hugely successful event and Summer 2021 seems an apt time for this to happen; we feel confident that the public will embrace the trail even more so than this year – especially as more and more people are taking ‘Staycations’ there is no better a town to visit than Southend on Sea! We are confident the trail will be every bit as amazing despite the postponement.’
The Hares About Town team are still very much looking forward to bringing colour and conversations to the streets over the months ahead.
Charlie Langhorne, Co-founder and Managing Director or Wild in Art said, “We passionately champion the importance of art for everybody and the social, cultural and educational benefits which it provides. Our events are designed to bring the enjoyment of public art to everyone and they have a proven track record of encouraging residents and visitors to get active, to enjoy being outdoors and to explore parts of towns and cities that they may not have visited before.”
“Hares about Town will give everyone a reason to smile and we look forward to seeing everyone out on the streets once again, walking, running and cycling the trail and discovering all the wonderfully painted Hares.”
