Katy Beck-Hill, a Complementary Therapist, will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours starting on Friday 10th October, all in support of the charity she works for, Havens Hospices.
In preparation, Katy has been lacing up her hiking boots and training hard, from walking up and down the ‘Leigh Steps’ for hours to tackling the hills at Hadleigh Park Cycles. Katy says, “It’s been over 10 years since I’ve done a challenge, so I know there’s plenty of training ahead of me, but in the past I’ve trekked Machu Picchu and The Great Wall of China for charity, so I know I can do this!”
So far Katy has raised an incredible £1,287 for Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens adult hospice and Little Havens children’s hospice, providing specialist care for people of all ages living with incurable conditions and supporting their families.
When talking about the challenge and what inspired her, Katy says, “When I started working at the hospice, they encouraged me to reflect on my wishes, dreams and things I wanted to achieve. I knew I wanted a physical challenge this year, and this one popped up on the Havens Hospices website. After seeing first-hand the wonderful and truly supportive care at Havens Hospices, which touches so many lives, I knew I had to sign up!
“I am feeling positive about the challenge. I have a friend completing it as well, so we are egging each other on! However, I am not looking forward to the journeys between the mountains, but when it gets hard, I will think about all of the people I have cared for to keep me motivated.”
Havens Hospices provides its specialist care and support to those facing the most challenging time in their lives, completely free of charge. They can only continue to do so thanks to the support of people like Katy and the local community.
