Havens Hospices is holding a Nursing Careers Open Day on Thursday 6th June for those looking for a rewarding career in nursing at its Fair Havens and Little Havens hospices.
The event, taking place at Fair Havens in Prittlewell from 1-5pm, will give attendees the opportunity to discover the Band 5 and 6 nursing roles available, as well as meet the clinical and people development teams, tour the hospice and interview for available positions on the day of the event.
The registered charity offers several employee benefits, including a £1000 welcome gift for all nurse roles, an employer-paid health cash plan which includes 24/7 counselling and GP service, matching NHS salaries through ‘Agenda for Change’, NHS pensions for continuing members, free parking and monthly complementary therapy sessions.
Dawn Hathaway, Head of Organisational Development and People at Havens Hospices, says, “At Havens Hospices, we know that developing your role is important. That’s why we have a dedicated team to support you through our Careers Pathway Programme and are always looking for opportunities for staff to develop in their roles.”
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support for people of all ages living with incurable conditions and their families so that the whole family can get the most from life and make every day count.
Their Fair Havens hospice in Prittlewell provides care and support to adults living with incurable conditions in Southend, Castle Point, and Rochford, while Little Havens in Thundersley supports babies, children, and young people from Essex and the surrounding boroughs.
Talking about what it’s like to work at Havens Hospices, Janet Taylor Fane, a senior nurse at Fair Havens, says, “It’s a very lively, happy environment, and it can also be very calm at times. It’s all about trying to get the best out of people and trying to help them achieve their goals day to day. It could be the smallest thing, from a patient wanting to put on their makeup or have their hair done to arranging animals to come in or a pet that they would love to see. We’ve had a horse come to the hospice once, which was actually incredible!
“I can hand on my heart say that the Fair Havens Team is the best team I’ve ever worked with. I think we show a lot of respect for each other, give a lot of encouragement, and learn a lot from each other – we all have different skills to bring. I think we have a good sense of humour, so there’s a lot of laughter on the floor. We are a very caring and compassionate team.”
Before the event, children’s nurses who would like to go to Little Havens for an informal tour can email info@havenshospices.org.uk to book a visit.
