Local Businesses Come Together for Annual Charity Football Match

On the 20th May 2022, businesses from across South East Essex will be ditching their suits for studs for an annual football match in aid of local hospice care.

For the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic, Southend United Football Club will welcome staff from Barclays, Ayers & Cruiks, BTMK, Barrons, Paul Robinson Solicitors, MWS, Rickard Luckin, Affinity Mortgages, Azets and Howard and Stapleton to raise funds for Havens Hospices.

Organisers are inviting the public to come along, cheer on the players and get involved in activities including an auction, raffle and a half-time Cross Bar Challenge for younger supporters to test their skills.  Ex-Blues players will also be in attendance to throw their support behind the players on the night.

The charity must raise more than £85,000 every week to be there when a family is told there is no cure for their loved one’s illness.  Its hospice services help by controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring for adults, children and young people at the end of their lives. This free, specialist care is there for as long as it’s needed, within the home, in the community and at the two hospices.

This is only possible because of the support of the local community and businesses who organise events like ‘Play on the Pitch.’

Lydia Plews, Business Development Manager at Havens Hospices says: “We can’t thank Barclays enough for hosting and all the businesses that take part in this incredible fun annual fundraiser. To date the businesses have raised over £150,000 which helps Havens Hospices continue providing specialist hospice care to families who rely on our services during the most difficult time.”

Entry is a donation on the gate at Roots Hall. Gates open at 5:30pm with Kick-Off at 6pm. For more information please visit www.havenshospices.org.uk/events
