About The J’s

The J’s provides palliative nursing and supportive care to young adults (aged 16-40) living with complex or incurable conditions across Essex.

Our specialist Care Team can support you and your family, enabling you to retain your independence, in the comfort of your own home and through support groups in the community.

We focus on your quality of life, caring for your individual physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. We empower these young adults to make choices about their care and treatment and encourage them to be who they want to be.

We can provide specialist nursing advice, support, coordination and key working. We can also work with you at home to give carers a break, or to enable young people to access support or attend events in their community

  • Respite breaks in a patient’s home
  • Personal care
  • We will also support young people transitioning out of children’s care, perhaps from a children’s hospice or paediatric consultant.
  • Wellbeing Team including counselling for adults and children, support and therapeutic groups, social work, complementary and creative therapies and spiritual care.

Initial contact may be made either by a parent, patient or carer, or any professional directly involved in the patient’s care. Anyone making a referral must have the consent of the patient.

When a young adult is referred to us, they are allocated one of our nurses as their ‘Key Nurse’ who will be their main point of contact. They are also given information on other contacts who can give help and advice.

Your Key Nurse will assess your needs - including your physical, social, emotional and spiritual requirements - and create plans for your care to ensure that these needs are met. They will make referrals to the other services that The J’s provides as required.

Your nurse will visit and reassess you when needed to ensure continuity of care.

No. All our care is provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of our supporters who make kind donations through fundraising events, gifts in wills and our lottery.

Our care can only exist because of you

Our care can only exist because of the support and generosity from the community. Your donation means we can continue to be there for every young adult who needs us.

We feel really lucky that we have The J’s Hospice to support us. Life would be much more difficult without the additional care and respite. Allison, Sophie’s mum
