Millie and her family at Little Havens

Millie’s Story

"Little Havens is a safe place where Millie and all the family can come to be ourselves and kind of just have our little bubble."

Millie’s condition is a muscle disorder which affects her muscles inside and outside of her body including her stomach, mouth and eyelids. She also has Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and sleeps with a machine at nighttime to help her breathe.

Little Havens supports Millie and her family in many ways, including visits at home, day stays and overnight stays. Millie’s medical needs have changed more recently so the Care Team has been adapting care and support to meet the family’s needs.

“What makes Little Havens special is the people, it’s just the little things that make such a difference. I will always remember certain members of the Care Team that have been there for Millie and us on many separate occasions where she ended up unwell and had to go hospital. It was the same people that were around the whole time and reassured us that we’ll get another chance to come back. Whenever Millie sees them, her face just lights up and wants to give them hugs.”

“Millie loves everyone at Little Havens, especially members of the Care Team she knows so well. The gardens also bring her so much joy. It wasn’t until we came to Little Havens that Millie could use a swing, so that fact I could strap her in one of the swings was amazing. I remember her little face, she was so confused when she first sat in it, she didn’t know if she loved it or hated it, then all of a sudden you could tell she loved it. It’s just the little things that make a difference.”
