On 19th September, Jasmine Frayer, 32, will walk alongside her sister Chloe, daughter Elsie and nephew Ernie at the Glow for Havens fundraising event, to raise money for Little Havens, a charity close to the family’s heart.
Jasmine and her family decided to take part in Glow for Havens and fundraise for the children’s hospice as her son, Teddy, 10, is supported by Little Havens. Teddy lives with Dravet Syndrome, a rare and complex form of epilepsy, and had his first seizure at just six weeks old.
Jasmine said, “Doctors initially told me they were febrile convulsions, but I knew in my heart they weren’t. I did my own research and found Dravet Syndrome, but Doctors dismissed me, telling me it was very rare, but I insisted he was tested. And there it was, his diagnosis. Our world changed there and then. The medications have been a trial throughout his life, some stripping him of his personality, some making him angry, some making his seizures worse.”
Little Havens, located in Thundersley and part of Havens Hospices, was suggested to Jasmine as a source of support for her family. Teddy now receives regular respite care, including access to facilities such as the hospice’s sensory swimming pool, which he loves.
Jasmine said, “Little Havens provides a safe space where all of Teddy’s needs are met. They provide four hours’ respite a month with a home carer, who he has a beautiful bond with. He also has access to all the amazing facilities. His favourite is the swimming pool, which gives him sensory input, freedom and relaxation. He now also receives overnight care there, with staff catering to his medication routine. This respite helps me spend quality time with my other children, whilst I know Teddy is being looked after in a safe place.”
Jasmine and her sister Chloe take part in a fundraising activity each year for a different charity, and this year they chose to support Little Havens by taking part in the charity’s Glow for Havens event. Starting from Little Havens, the event will see hundreds of supporters, like Jasmine and her family, taking to the streets in their brightest glow gear for a 5K or 12.5K walk through the Little Havens Woodland and around Hadleigh Castle.
Talking about their fundraiser, Jasmine said “We want to raise money for Little Havens to help keep such an amazing charity going, continuing to provide care, comfort and hope to families who need it most. They provide kindness and real support to people through their hardest times. This walk is our way of saying thank you.
“The event is also a great way for us to spend quality time together as a family. We’re most looking forward to chatting to each other, helping each other along the way, and sharing that special feeling. We’re not just walking; we’re walking for something important. When Elsie and Ernie find it hard, we’ll think about the strength Teddy shows daily to help push us through. It’s wonderful for the children to see how kindness helps, and we all can’t wait for a bright evening of fun!”

Supporters interested in taking part can receive a 15% off discount when they register online between 28th – 31st August (closes at 5pm). Under 5s go free and there is an option to save with a Family Ticket for 40.80, and a ticket upgrade option for the Silent Disco at 3 per person (excluded in sale).
Every penny raised in sponsorship helps Havens Hospices continue providing specialist care to families facing incurable conditions like Teddy’s across Essex.
