The civil engineering company Knight Group, based in Kelvedon, has transformed the decking area within the children’s hospice’s much-loved gardens, complete with a comfortable bespoke bench. The peaceful spot overlooks the hospice’s woodland surroundings, providing families and patients with a tranquil place to relax and spend time together.
The project saw Knight Group employees volunteer to dismantle and remove the old decking and bench, which had served families well for many years but was in need of replacement. The company then donated all materials for the renovation and dedicated significant time and expertise to the project, spending one week laying foundations and installing the new decking, followed by three weeks crafting the custom-designed seated bench with its protective cover.
The transformation has opened up a previously inaccessible area of the gardens, giving the Care Team a valuable new outdoor space where they can take children, young people and their families to enjoy fresh air, have meaningful conversations, or simply sit in surrounded by nature.
Steve Yeung, Corporate Fundraiser at Havens Hospices said: “The expansive gardens at Little Havens are treasured by the families who use the hospice, providing a calming environment during what can be challenging times. This enhancement to the outdoor space will benefit patients and their families for years to come and we can’t thank the Knight Group enough for their continued support. We must raise over £79,000 a week to be there for every family who needs us.”
Little Havens, part of Havens Hospices, is the children’s hospice for Essex and provides specialist care and support for babies, children, young people and their families facing incurable and complex illnesses.
