Glitz, Glamour and Giving: Charity Ball Raises Funds and Celebrates the Life of Bex

Over 160 guests came together in style at Apton Hall on Saturday 1st November for a night of sparkle and celebration – all in memory of Bex Oglina, who died aged just 33.

The black-tie charity ball, organised by local nurse Lucy Layzell, was held in aid of Havens Hospices, the charity that provides specialist palliative care to families across Essex.

The evening was made extra special as it fell the weekend of what would have been Bex’s 35th birthday.

Guests were treated to live entertainment from a local duo, Contrast Vocals Di and Angie and singer Scarlett Rose Davies, along with a raffle featuring prizes kindly donated by local businesses, including Essex Glamping, Marsh Farm, Hair By Jess Perks and Southend United Football Club.

The stunning venue was beautifully decorated by Chelsea Event Hires, Inflated Creations, Star and Envy Events, Balloon Box and Simply Stunning Flowers, creating the perfect atmosphere for a night of fundraising.

The event was proudly sponsored by building company Houghtons Group, whose support helped cover the costs of the ball – meaning even more of the money raised could go directly to Havens Hospices.

The event raised £5,721, which could pay for over 190 hours of specialist care at Fair Havens Hospice for someone else like Bex – giving families precious time and support when it matters most.

Lucy said, “The night was everything I hoped it would be. Bex would have absolutely loved it. For me this night was about celebrating her, keeping her memory alive, and making sure that others like her get the same love and care. It’s part of her legacy now. I’m so grateful to everyone who came, donated and supported the event – your kindness will help make sure others like Bex get the care they deserve.”
