On 13th September, eight brave members of the hospice’s Inpatient Unit will climb aboard the top wing of a biplane and soar through the air for a cause close to their hearts.
Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens adult hospice and Little Havens children’s hospice, provides specialist care for people of all ages living with incurable conditions and supports their families, ‘Making every day count.’
The fearless flyers include Hayley Boyce, Louise Thompson, Chris Kelly, Alison Laird, Jessica Bush, Rona Wood, Deniece Woolard and Sophie Evers, and they have already raised more than £2,000.
All donations will directly benefit the care and support they provide first-hand in the hospice’s Inpatient Unit.
Deniece Woolard, a Health Care Assistant at Fair Havens, shared her personal motivation for taking part. She said, “Working at Havens Hospices is such a privilege. We get to care for our patients and their families at the most difficult time in their lives. We also bring joy and laughter, creating memories for our patients in their final days, weeks or months.
“The charity has always held a special place in my heart. They cared for my best friend Clive Watson, and more recently, my beloved father-in-law Melvyn Woolard.
“The wing walk means so much to us as the money raised will help us continue making a difference to our patients and families. This is one of the most frightening things any of us would have put ourselves through – but we do it for our patients, both past and present.”
The team are aiming to raise as much as possible and is calling on the community to rally behind them with messages of support and donations of any size. To support the team with a donation, visit their JustGiving page justgiving.com/page/teamipu
