Roach Valley Way Relay Raises Over £20,000 for Havens Hospices

The Roach Valley Way Relay has proven its place as one of the area’s most beloved grassroots sporting events, raising an incredible £2,500 for Havens Hospices during this year’s relay.

Now in its 11th year, the annual relay took place along the picturesque Roach Valley Way, attracting 37 teams to complete the unique 23-mile stage trail run. This brings the total funds raised since the event began to a remarkable £20,223.

Organised entirely by volunteers, Karl Cadman, Ian Jordan, and Mike Jordan, the event continues to grow in popularity, thanks to its combination of community spirit, endurance, and navigational challenge.

The course is divided into four legs, with each runner navigating their stage using a combination of written directions, maps, and footpath ‘Way Markers’. This makes the relay not just a physical test, but also a team-building experience.

Funds raised from this year’s event were recently presented to Havens Hospices during a visit to Little Havens, the charity’s children’s hospice in Thundersley, where Judy Grocott, Head of Fundraising, gave the organisers a guided tour of the facility.

She said: “It’s always humbling to see how much time and effort goes into community events like the Roach Valley Relay. We are so grateful to Mike, Ian and Karl for their ongoing support, and I was delighted to show them how their contributions directly benefit the children and families we care for.”

Over the past decade, the relay has evolved from a one-off event into a cherished annual tradition. Its continued success is a testament to the dedication of its organisers and the generosity of the local running community.

Registration is now open for next year’s Roach Valley Way Relay, taking place on Sunday 3rd May 2026. For more information and to sign up, visit: https://theroachvalleywayrelay.wordpress.com
