The exhilarating evening of competitive karting and community camaraderie successfully raised £3,030.70 in support of Havens Hospices—a charity providing specialist care and support for children, adults, and their families living with complex or incurable conditions across Essex. Funds from this year’s CECK8 bring the total raised to nearly £20,000 since its inception.
The latest event, supported by a range of businesses, featured a 20-minute practice and qualifying session, followed by a thrilling two-hour team endurance race. Teams of two to four drivers competed in Sodi RT10 karts, navigating driver changes and fuel stops throughout the race. The winners of the race were Understeer Merchants, made up of friends and Mini racers, James Black and Tom Ovenden.
Additional fundraising activities, including a “Blind Bid for Grid,” “Buying of Laps,” and a raffle, contributed to the evening’s success. Michael Crees, British Touring Car Racer, came along to lend his support to the event as he has done for the last few years.
Notably, the Hoval UltraKart2 team, led by Jake Towns, bolstered the fundraising efforts through their JustGiving page, adding £460.00 (plus £115.00 in Gift Aid) to the total. Their campaign can be viewed at: https://www.justgiving.com/page/hovalceck8. Hoval also sponsored t-shirts for the event, further adding to funds raised. The team also won the Charity Race on the night after buying the most laps and were top fundraisers too.
Paul Bridgeman, Regional Director and Auctioneer at Clive Emson Auctioneers, said: “It’s incredible to see how this event has grown over the years. The dedication and spirit of everyone involved make it a highlight of our calendar. Raising over £3,000 this year is a testament to the generosity of our participants and supporters. We’re proud to support Havens Hospices and look forward to continuing this tradition.”
Chris Hatton, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Havens Hospices, added: “Events like CECK8 are vital for us. They not only raise essential funds but also bring the community together in support of our cause. We’re grateful to Clive Emson Auctioneers and all the participants for their unwavering support.”
Havens Hospices provides specialist care for children and adults with complex or incurable conditions across Essex. The funds raised from CECK8 will help the charity continue its mission of ‘Making every day count.’
