Glow for Havens, now in its second year, saw hundreds of supporters take on either a 5K or 12.5K walking route through the beautiful Little Havens woodland, down to Hadleigh Castle and back to the hospice in their brightest glowing outfits.

Friends, families, colleagues and even four-legged furry friends came together in memory of loved ones, in support of their local hospice, or simply for a fun evening out, all while raising vital funds for Havens Hospices’ expert, compassionate care for babies, children, young people and adults across Essex living with incurable conditions.

The evening started with a warm-up by local gym, Studio 35 Hadleigh, followed by a countdown from Havens Hospices’ Patron and Radio Presenter Su Harrison. After participants completed their walk, the evening continued with more fun and memory-making, as supporters celebrated their achievement in the silent disco, kindly sponsored by Orko Lighting, and enjoyed delicious food and refreshments.

Tara Burgess from Great Wakering took on the 12.5K route. Reflecting on the evening, she said: “From start to finish, there was a really happy buzz, with lots of laughter, music, kids raring to go, along with our fluffy four-legged friends.

“When we set off, it was wonderful to see an army of green Glow T-shirts, glowing lights and brightly coloured clothing striving ahead into the night. There was such a strong sense of community, with strangers cheering each other on, families walking together, and everyone united by the same cause.

“It made me feel incredibly proud to walk alongside so many people who had given up their evening to support Havens Hospices and all the remarkable work they do for our community. Events like these are a real reminder of the difference we can make when we come together.”

Early figures show the event has raised more than £18,000, with donations still coming in, all of which will go directly to Havens Hospices.

Lucy Lock, Community Engagement Manager at Havens Hospices said, “It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces return, alongside new supporters at our second Glow for Havens event.

“Every pound raised from the evening will help us continue to care for families going through the toughest times, ensuring we are there for them now and into the future.

“Thank you so much to everyone who took part on the day, our incredible volunteers for giving up their time to make the event a success, our Patron Su, Scotts of Southend and DJ Superstores for providing lighting, Studio 35 Hadleigh for getting our supporters warmed up and our silent disco sponsors, Orko Electrical – we wouldn’t be able to provide our expert care without your support.”
