Hospice worker to cycle from London to Southend in support of charity she works for

A local hospice charity worker will be cycling from the East End to Southend to raise vital funds for Havens Hospices.

Christine Harris, Supportive Therapies Lead at Havens Hospices, will be participating in the London to Southend bike ride, which sets off from West Ham Park, East London, and finishes in Priory Park, Southend on 21st July 2024.

The event is the perfect challenge for seasoned cyclists or complete beginners looking for a new challenge and incorporates regular stops for lunch and tea in the scenic countryside.

Christine will be raising vital funds for the charity she works for which cares for local people of all ages living with incurable conditions, helping them to make the most of every day.

Within the Wellbeing team at Fair Havens in Prittlewell and is often based at the Fair Havens Hub, which offers a wide range of facilities, activities and therapies to enhance patient wellbeing, supporting adults who have been diagnosed with an incurable illness to live independently with their condition for longer.

Christine says: “I am incredibly lucky that I get to meet so many amazing and inspiring individuals. I love listening to each of their stories and discovering what and who is important to them. I am also grateful that I work with a fabulous team who I learn a great deal from and who support me enormously.  We are fortunate that we can give people lots of our time and provide a huge range of different inventions to help with different needs.”

Ahead of this long and challenging journey, Christine has now begun to train in preparation with the support of her friends. She says, “I cycle to work every day, come rain or shine! I often go for long cycles in the countryside and have many friends who like to join me. The positive feedback we get from those we support at the hospice is wonderfully encouraging and I want to do everything I can to be able to help as many people as possible.”

Anyone who would like to take part in the London to Southend cycle and support their local hospice charity Havens Hospices, will receive a unique cycling jersey if they pledge to raise a minimum of £100.
