Charity Cricket Event bowls over £13,000 for hospices

Essex Big Bash, organised by a local recruitment company, AJ Chambers, has raised over £13,000 at their inaugural charity cricket event for Havens Hospices.

Essex Big Bash is a T20-format cricket match featuring Accountants vs Lawyers, which took place in the summer, played at Hadleigh & Thundersley Cricket Club.

The match featured former England cricketers Devon Malcolm and Adam Hollioake, who played for each team. The headline sponsors of the event were Accountancy Age, BTMK Solicitors, and Insight Strategic Associates.

Earlier this week, representatives of AJ Chambers were welcomed to the charity’s children’s hospice, Little Havens, to present a cheque for £13,157.11, including Andy Hilliard, Director of AJ Chambers, who said: “We knew we wanted to fundraise for Havens Hospices. We love the work they do, so fundraising for them was an easy choice for us – we’ve supported the charity for over a decade now and like to support them where possible.

“There’s lots of football and golf tournaments out there, and we wanted to do something a bit different. We have two big cricket fans in the business who came to me with the idea, and it grew from there. The event was held at Hadleigh & Thundersley Cricket Club, just around the corner to Little Havens, so it felt perfect.

“We’d love to grow this event and raise even more next time for local families who need the care and support of Havens Hospices.”

Rossella Inguscio, Corporate Fundraiser, Havens Hospices: “At Havens Hospices, we believe in making every day count for the families we care for across Essex. We provide specialist care to children and adults living with incurable conditions and our Care Teams support them and their families throughout illness, death and bereavement in the comfort of their own home or at our hospices, Fair Havens or Little Havens.

“Being part of the Essex Big Bash – organised by AJ Chambers – allows us to not only raise awareness of the care we provide in the community but to also raise vital funds towards our care and support, which so many local families rely on. We can’t thank AJ Chambers and everyone involved in the event enough for their incredible support, and we look forward to future events.”
