Do you want to offer your time as a volunteer, but do not have a set time commitment to give?

Occasional volunteering is a great way to get involved, but on a flexible basis. We are looking for volunteers to help at events and collections, where you decide how much time you would like to offer. If you would like to offer your time, you will be provided with full support and an event briefing so you feel adequately supported to carry out your role.

Chelmsford Takeover 2026

Date: 11th April 2026

Join the Heroes Behind the Scenes at The Chelmsford Takeover! 

The Chelmsford Takeover is back - our annual, free, city-wide cosplay spectacular taking over Chelmsford city centre in support of Little Havens Children’s Hospice. We’re looking for up to 50 friendly volunteers to help make the magic happen by supporting bucket collections on the day.

This is a fun, family-friendly opportunity to be part of an unforgettable event filled with TV and film characters, show cars, themed activities, and an incredible community atmosphere - all while raising vital funds for an amazing cause.

What’s involved?

- Helping with bucket collections around the city centre.

- Chatting with the public and soaking up the cosplay vibes.

Choosing a 2-hour slot that suits you:

10am-12pm
12pm-2pm
2pm-4pm
4pm-5pm

Want to do more? Double up on slots or volunteer for the full day!

What do you get?

- All equipment provided

- Official event t-shirt, hi-vis, and collection bucket

- A front-row seat to one of Chelmsford’s most exciting events

- The feel-good factor of supporting children with complex or incurable conditions, and their families

No experience needed. Sensible footwear advisable due to a lot of walking.

Southend Half Marathon 2026

Date: 13th / 14th June 2026

Location: East Beach, Shoeburyness SS3 9AD

Join us for the popular Southend Half Marathon as a Havens Hospices Volunteer

What’s involved?

- Event set-up / Event pack down

- Route marshal - providing encouragement and ensuring the safety of participants along the route

- Water station marshal - keeping runners hydrated by managing water stations

Time commitment: 

Saturday 13th June 2026 – approximately 6 hours (time TBC)
Sunday 14th June 2026 – approximately 8 hours depending on role (time TBC)

What do you get?

- All our volunteers will be given the equipment they need to help deliver race day.

- Pre-race instructions will be emailed out in advance and you'll get a volunteer briefing before the race so you know exactly what to expect from your day.

- It's also a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, be part of your local community, build up your confidence and have some fun!

No experience needed. Please be aware that the role may include lifting, and moving heavy objects.

Chelmsford Marathon & Half Marathon

Date: 11th October 2026

Location: Central Park, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 0FQ

Join us for the popular Chelmsford Marathon as a Havens Volunteer

What’s involved?

- Baggage - Manage the drop-off and collection area for participants’ belongings.

- Route marshal - providing encouragement and ensuring the safety of participants along the route

- Water station marshal - keeping runners hydrated by managing water stations

- Finish Line - Handing out medals and water to participants as they cross the finish line.

Please be aware that some roles may involve lifting and moving heavy objects.

Time commitment: 

Approximately 8 hours depending on role (time TBC)

What do you get?

- All our volunteers will be given the equipment they need to help deliver race day.

- Pre-race instructions will be emailed out in advance and you'll get a volunteer briefing before the race so you know exactly what to expect from your day.
