Sharon Andrews is a qualified complementary therapist who started volunteering in January 2017.
Sharon explains “I feel incredibly lucky to be here and I wanted to use my new skills to help others. Life can be extremely stressful for anyone suffering from a life limiting illness, complementary therapy allows you to have time out from all those stresses. It is 45 minutes that is just for them.
“I love volunteering at Havens Hospices, everyone is very friendly and you quickly become part of the family. I feel by giving my time and my skills I really am giving back and helping others directly; complementary therapy can be expensive so it is lovely to be able to offer my services and help Havens Hospices continue ‘Making every day count’ for their patients, carers and families.
“I volunteer mainly at Fair Havens Hospice once a week in their day care, but I also get involved with pamper days and evenings that Havens Hospices organise for carers and patients. Recently, I spent a very enjoyable day at Little Havens Hospice pampering teenagers who use the service and their friends.
“Everyone seems to have a common goal of delivering the best care and support they can to help the adults who use the service. It costs a lot for Havens Hospices to deliver the level of care that they do so by volunteering in any way and giving a little time is a great help to the charity. It’s also incredibly rewarding, there’s no feeling quite like it knowing you are helping a charity to be there for your local community when they need it most.”
