Georgia Madden-Jones has been volunteering for the Havens Hospices’ Helping Hands team since summer 2016.
Georgia explains “I started volunteering because I think that the work that Havens Hospices does is so important for the local community. The amount of people that they care and support is incredible and I wanted to really help them continue to provide this much needed service in Essex.
“My volunteering role varies at each event that I attend with the Helping Hands, each one is so different, which is one of the reasons why I love doing it. I never know what to expect when I turn up to each event which makes it really exciting! My duties can range from doing bucket collections, running a tombola stall, being the Havens Hospices’ mascot - Betsy the Butterfly, to organising quiz nights!
“There are so many things I love about volunteering one is definitely the sense of community spirit you experience at the events, all of the Helping Hands team are volunteers and you can really tell that everyone in the group loves being there for the day and it’s so rewarding to be a part of that team.
“My volunteering experience is definitely the most rewarding thing I have ever done and I would recommend it to everyone, not only does it feel good knowing I’m helping towards making a difference to people’s lives, but it’s been made so worthwhile by all the new interesting people I have met and the friends I have made. It’s also improved my confidence hugely and boosted my social skills.”
