General Practitioner or Specialty Doctor Palliative Medicine

Havens Hospices is currently undergoing exciting change and we are seeking a GP or Specialty Doctor to help be part of developing the future of our Hospice Care.

If you are a GP with an interest in Palliative Care or have the experience to work as a specialty doctor and you want to make a true difference to patient experience and you have the leadership skills and drive to be part of radical change in Hospice Care then we want you in our team.

We are offering up to 10 sessions per week and it is hoped that this will be covered by more than one post. Ideally we would seek to employ a lead GP/Specialty post up to 6 sessions, and another post to cover 4 sessions.  This would enable a GP to remain in practice but vary their portfolio of specialist interest.

We are keen to support education, training and development in the role for the right candidate/s.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the medical care of patients on the in-patient unit, Day Hospice and in the Community, adhering to scope of practice and seeking specialist advice and support where necessary
  • To be responsible for the planning, admission, clerking and discharge of patients in all areas
  • To prescribe in line with safe prescribing guidance against the palliative care formulary
  • To work within the multi-disciplinary team both within the Hospice and the wider palliative care network
  • To manage the caseload effectively to ensure Hospice Care is delivered to the patient at the right time and in the right place
