Counsellor (Adult Service)

Contract: Part time 25 hours per week (1 year fixed term contract)

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, passionate individual to join our counselling team.

If you hold a recognised counselling qualification with experience in a relevant healthcare environment, we would love to hear from you. You must have a clear understanding of the holistic needs of patients and families living with life-limiting illness.

As part of Havens Hospices multidisciplinary team you will  support the patients and families using Havens Hospices care services. Our counselling service also offers support following bereavement.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for listening and helping others.

Key responsibilities

  • To work closely with Havens Hospices Care Teams to identify patients, carers and families that require psychological support, ensuring good communication and effective joint planning and working.
  • To ensure that all patients and families are aware of the supportive services available to them.
  • To undertake clinical assessments to include safeguarding risk assessment.
  • To provide emotional and counselling support (up to Level 3), to an agreed caseload.
  • To manage referrals in a timely and appropriate way.
  • To work with patients and families using individual, group or family techniques, involving other members of the multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • To provide an opportunity for patients and families to safely and creatively explore their emotions regarding life-limiting illness and bereavement issues.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary meetings as necessary.
  • To develop activities in accordance with the needs of the service.
  • To keep records which facilitate communication within the Hospice in accordance with the Hospice policy and mindful of good work practice.
  • To keep relevant statistics and contribute to Wellbeing Services reporting and audit as necessary.
  • To contribute to the planning and organisation of various supportive events e.g. Thanksgiving and Remembrance Service.
