Caretaker

Contract: Full time- 37.5 Hours per week
Salary: £21,525 per annum
Location: Multi-site (travel between hospice sites Fair Havens and Little Havens)
Closing Date: May 31, 2022

We are currently recruiting for a Caretaker to join our established Facilities Team, to provide support to the Maintenance Team in relation to the buildings and maintaining building services that enable the Charity’s service to be provided from that location without interruption.

The successful applicant will be pivotal in ensuring that all service users have unencumbered use of high-quality facilities, ensuring service levels are met and procedures and guidelines are followed.

Candidates will have:

  • Some experience in a building services or maintenance environment
  • GCSE level or equivalent as applicable
  • Intermediate keyboard and IT skills, working with Word, Excel and outlook, PowerPoint
  • Numeracy skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and work effectively within a team
  • Ability to multitask and manage a busy and varied workload, working methodically and paying attention to detail
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings with a flexible approach to the working day
  • Car owner / driver or have access to own transport

At Havens Hospices we care for children, young people and adults with complex or incurable conditions. Our specialist Care Teams can support them and their family living throughout illness, death and bereavement, in the comfort of their own home and through our hospice services, Fair Havens, and Little Havens.

Although you may not be giving direct care to our families, this role will have a direct effect on our care services.

Full job specification

Key responsibilities:

  • To undertake maintenance, testing, and repair activities across the organisation
  • Setting up rooms for use by hirers or external guests in a timely manner and in

accordance with the request

  • To assist, as required, in the planning and control of any new works (e.g., building

projects, refurbishment, or relocation projects), including liaising with appropriate

departments or external agencies

  • To follow the Planned Preventative Maintenance schedule using the Facilities

Maintenance Database (including PAT testing)

  • Liaising with/overseeing contractors and volunteers whilst they are on site as

appropriate, maintaining appropriate records of all activities using the Facilities

Maintenance Database

  • Day to day hydrotherapy pool safety checks (training provided)
  • Day to day medical gas management (training provided)
  • Keeping up with the PAT testing regime (training provided)
  • It is the responsibility of the maintenance team to ensure that building, vehicle, site systems and security are maintained and kept in working order.
