The swim start line for the Southend Triathlon 2019

The Event

Will you take on the challenge of the Southend Triathlon?

We’re really excited to be organising the popular Southend Triathlon, with Sundried as our official sponsor.

This year the event is on Sunday 19th July and starts and finishes at Shoebury Common Beach in Southend.

Participants will complete a 750m sea swim, a 20k open-road cycle and finish with a 5k run around Gunners Park. The course is almost entirely flat which makes it the ideal event for participants of all abilities.

The participants will be set off in pre-allocated waves. Please note that for safety reasons, once waves have been allocated we will be unable to change them. Each wave will have approximately 50 people and the first wave of participants will enter the sea at 8:30am.

The routes will be heavily marshalled by our friendly volunteers who will be on hand throughout the event so keep you safe and cheer you on.

The event will be capped at 450 participants so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment!

Event information

The Southend Triathlon starts and finishes at Shoebury Common Beach, Southend, SS3 9HG.

The first wave of swimmers will set off at 8am so will enter the water at approximately 7:55am. The following waves will then be set off in frequent intervals. As we cannot allow you to swap waves or enter the water after the specific wave start time, please ensure you arrive at the Event Hub in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

The waves will be capped at 50 participants. Please let us know by the end of June if there is a specific wave you would like to be in, or if you would like to be in the same wave as a friend. Please note we cannot make any changes to the allocated waves after June.

You will be able to collect your pack the day before the event between 10am-12 noon from Shoebury Common Beach. If you are not local or this doesn’t work for you, you can also collect your pack in the morning of the event from the Registration tent. Please allow yourself extra time if you need to collect your pack.

We recommend you read our FAQ page prior to the event so you know exactly what to expect on the day. If you have a question that is not answered on this page, please contact us on 01702 221658 and we will be happy to help.

Competition rules

As we have applied for a British Triathlon Permit, we strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the official competition rules. You can find them here.

Our suppliers

We’re really pleased that Tri N Swim Well will be attending the event this year. They will have a stall in the Event Hub providing wetsuit hire, and all proceeds will be donated to Havens! They will also be selling wetsuits, goggles and swim accessories so no need to panic if you forget any of your gear on the day!

The Bagelry will be joining us on the day as well serving a selection of breakfast and lunch options, snacks and hot/cold beverages.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin will be open on event day, also serving a selection of snacks and drinks.

There will be a water station in the transition area, but we encourage all participants to bring their own refillable bottle of water.

There is also a toilet block onsite at Shoebury Common Beach which will be open and available to participants and spectators throughout the event.
