The Route

The Route

The 13.1mile UK Athletics approved course is flat and closed to traffic making it ideal for first time half marathon runners as well as more serious club runners who are looking to achieve a personal best. Wheelchair athletes are also welcome.

The route is made up of two laps, starting and finishing at East Beach, Shoeburyness. The route takes runners through The Garrison before picking up Southend seafront to the Sealife Centre and back. Whilst road closures are in operation there may be occasions when vehicles will be moving on the course.

We strongly advise against wearing headphones of any kind as despite the route being closed to traffic there are occasions when vehicles are granted access to the course. It is therefore imperative that runners can hear marshal instructions as well as approaching wheelchair athletes who may be travelling very fast.

Water Stations

As this is a summer race often in high temperatures, runners are reminded of the need to stay hydrated. On the two lap course participants will pass a water station ten times during the race. Water will be provided in cups along the route and in bottles at the finish line. Cups and bottles will be collected after the event for recycling. Where possible please place used cups in the containers provided on the course.

Whilst there is ample water available on the day we strongly recommend carrying your own water supply for the race.

Gels and energy drinks are not provided at this event so for runners used to running with these we recommend that they bring their own on the day.
