bubbles galore for local hospice

01 August 2019

A local school has marked the end of the academic year with a huge splash and bubble party.

Pupils at Thorpe Hall School in Southend enjoyed a special end of term Bubble Run in aid of Little Havens Hospice which helps families when they are told there is no cure for their child’s illness, caring for babies, children and teenagers across Essex.

Students from the Lower and Senior schools took on the 5k challenge through a sea of bubbles, with Bubble Stations dotted along the route, pumping out foam at passing runners.

Both pupils and staff got involved and either walked, skipped and sprinted for the event, which took place on the school’s grounds. Money was raised by selling Thorpe Hall School Bubble Run t-shirts, too.

Thorpe Hall’s Headteacher, Andrew Hampton, was one of the Bubble-Runners.

“It was such a fun and memorable way to end another wonderful Thorpe Hall Year,” he said. “It was certainly an exhilarating last day of term and we were delighted to be supporting Little Havens.”

Emma Young, Little Havens Community Fundraiser, said

“On behalf of everyone at Little Havens, I’d like to thank everyone at Thorpe Hall who took part in their Bubble Run to raise money for us. We can only exist because of the support of our local community who fundraise for us by coming together and organising or taking part in fun events like this.”

There’s an opportunity for even more people to get involved in a bubbly event to help raise money for Havens Hospices this September at Garon Park who are hosting a 5K Bubble Rush in aid of the charity.

The run on Saturday 7th September at the park in Southend is family friendly and suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs too. Runners will start in a sea of foam, then take on four different coloured bubble stations where foam cannons will create a 4ft bubble bath.

Tickets are on sale now and cast £20 for adults and £10 for children. There’s also a family discount available and a discounted rate for six or more adults.
