On Wednesday 19th June, Boyce Hill Golf and Country Club in Benfleet held their annual charity golf day raising money for hospices in Essex.
Boyce Hill Golf and Country Club’s 30th Annual Charity Day to raise money for Havens Hospices and St Luke’s Hospice.
The day is organised by club member Martin Britt and his wife Christine, with help from their friends family and other club members. Martin and Chris first helped Havens Hospices in 1990 when they were asked to fundraise for the second property in Chalkwell Avenue, Westcliff so that Fair Havens Hospices could care for more adults with life-limiting illnesses from across South East Essex. They raised £17,000 at their first event.
After more very successful events in the years that followed, Martin, together with two other members approached the Golf Club Committee asking to make the Charity Day an annual event. This yearly event has now raised in excess of £500,000 for charity, of which over half has been donated to Havens Hospices. This has helped the charity continue to provide free specialist care for those who need them, within the home, in the community and at their two hospices.
Sally Bridger, Community Fundraiser said “On behalf of everyone at Havens Hospices, I would like to thank Boyce Hill Golf and Country Club and everyone who has been involved with this event for their continued support over the last thirty years. I would like to give special recognition to Christine and Martin for leading on this event every year and for choosing to fundraise for us every year. We wouldn’t exist without the support of our local community like Christine, Martin and everyone at Boyce Hill, so, thank you.”
Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice, is a registered charity and must raise over £100,000 every week to be there for everyone that needs them.
