Havens Hospices are encouraging the community to volunteer throughout 2019 with their new flexible roles.
Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s are launching their Occasional Volunteers program for 2019 giving everyone a chance to volunteer if they would like to.
Volunteering can be a very worthwhile thing to do and the benefits range from enhancing your CV to making new friends and feeling like you are part of your community, but it can be difficult to fit in with everything else that modern life brings. Havens Hospices’ Occasional Volunteering offers greater flexibility as it doesn’t involve a long-term regular commitment – instead the public are able to volunteer as and when they would like to.
Whether it’s two hours at a bucket collection or a whole day helping at an event like Pedal for The J’s or Southend Half Marathon, Occasional Volunteering makes a huge difference – over the past year 1,078 volunteers have donated 206,976 hours of their time, saving Havens Hospices £2.87 million – this saving means that the charity are able to be there for more seriously ill adults, young people, children and their families across Essex.
Faye Kadesh, Volunteer Services Manager said,
“We understand how difficult it can be to find time to get involved with charity work nowadays because of how busy life is, that is why we wanted to offer a more flexible approach to volunteering. You might only be able to give a few hours while the kids are at school or after work or you might only want to volunteer once or twice over the year; so rather than going through the fuller volunteering process, we have streamlined it so that you can get involved when you want to.
“We’re encouraging everyone across Essex to try volunteering, by signing up to be an Occasional Volunteer – even if they come just one time and give a couple of hours, it really will make a big difference and helps us continue ‘Making every day count’ for everyone we care for.”
