A national musical production company has raised money for Fair Havens Hospice in memory of their friend who was cared by them.
The Carpenters Story which played at the Towngate Theatre, Basildon on 25th October held a LED tealight sale in memory of violinist and company member Lorraine Kelly raising £343 for a local charity. The audience were encouraged to switch on their LED candles at the end of the performance as the company played footage of Lorraine performing.
All proceeds from the tealight sale at this performance and the previous performance at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend were donated to Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliff, where Lorraine was cared for and died in April 2018. The company have raised £1,343.70 over the two shows.
Phil Aldridge, Production Manager said,
“Lorraine had a great sense of fun, was a warm and loving friend to us all backstage, organising the catering, booking extra musicians, rehearsing and leading the orchestral section and generally making sure everything was ok.
“Whenever we look out at the sea of charity candles at the end of each show, we smile and remember her and how she bought so much pleasure to so many through her talent. We are happy to donate the proceeds from tealight sales at the Basildon show to Havens Hospices, in her memory, because we are so grateful for the care given to Lorraine and her family by the hospice.”
Sally Bridger, Community Fundraiser added
“I’d like to say thank you to Phil and The Carpenters Story for raising money for us at two of their performances in memory of their friend and colleague Lorraine. We can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters who fundraise for us – it is lovely that Phil and his team are choosing to remember their friend by raising money in her name and helping the charity that cared for her to continue ‘Making every day count’ for adults, children and young adults across Essex.
“Bereavement is one of the hardest things anyone has to face in life, but finding a lasting way to remember a loved one can be a great comfort. It can be helpful to do something positive in memory of someone close to you. Your donations will be helping families relying on the care and support provided by Havens Hospices.”
Havens Hospices has a variety of ways for you to honour the memory of your family member, friend or colleague whilst supporting the charity’s care at the same time. To find out more about In-Memory Fundraising please click here
