A local junior school has raised vital funds for Little Havens Hospice.
Pupils at Kents Hill Junior School, South Benfleet have been supporting Havens Hospices, which incorporates Fair Havens for adults, Little Havens for children and The J’s for young people since 1994.
However, in 2012 they decided to focus their fundraising efforts on Little Havens after learning about how the charity cares for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families and have held an annual talent show and other events for the children’s hospice raising a total of £2,499.60 to date.
The Kents Hill pupils audition for the show and if they’re successful they go through to the final. Three pupils are chosen to be on the judge’s panel and the school are joined by Havens Hospices mascot Betsy Butterfly and Community Fundraiser Sally Bridger for the show.
Head Boy and Girl, James and Chloe recently visited Little Havens with their teacher Trudy Watts to present a cheque for £400 from their latest show. Little Havens Music Therapist, Ruth Ellam was on hand to collect the cheque and explain how much music means to children and their families and how grateful Little Havens are to the school for their continued fundraising efforts.
Sally Bridger, Community Fundraiser said
“Betsy Butterfly and I attend the talent show every year and we’re always very impressed with the level of talent that is demonstrated! Everyone at Little Havens appreciates the hard work that the goes into the annual talent show; from the children rehearsing their acts to the staff who give their time to organise, prepare and decorate the school for the event, to the cake bakers who supply the lovely refreshments for the bake sale at the end of the day.
“Since 1994 the school has raised £5,390.95 for Havens Hospices which is just phenomenal, they’ve done this in a variety of ways from bake sales to non-uniform days. And over the past six years they’ve dedicated their time and efforts to raising money specifically for Little Havens, helping us to be there when we’re needed most. On behalf of everyone at Little Havens, I would like to thank them all for ‘Making every day count’ for the babies, children, teenagers and their families that we care for at Little Havens Hospices”
Little Havens Hospice is a registered charity and relies on the kindness of its supporters to be able to continue caring for those youngsters with life-limiting illnesses for as long as they are needed.
