The Mayor of Witham, Councillor Tom Pleasance, is organising an eight-mile sponsored walk from Maldon to Witham on Saturday 6th October to raise money for The J’s Hospice and the 295 Squadron ATC Mini Bus Fund, his chosen charities for his 2018-2019 civic year.
Walkers will meet outside the Moot Hall in Maldon High Street at 9.45am, ready for a 10am start. The eight-mile ramble goes along a scenic path away from the roads, following the route of the old railway tracks. The walk will finish at Witham Town Hall where there will be light refreshments.
The J’s Hospice cares for young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families across Essex, within the comfort of their homes or in the community. The charity currently supports 119 patients with a variety of complex needs.
Marianna Alexandrou, Community Fundraiser at The J’s Hospice is really excited about the walk. She explained: “The J’s Hospice relies on the kind support of the general public to continue delivering the services that our young adults and their families really rely on. This includes tailored nursing and emotional care, advice and social activities. We are very grateful to Councillor Tom Pleasance for making The J’s one of his charities of the year and organising some great fundraising events including the Maldon to Witham sponsored walk.
“There is some lovely countryside between Maldon and Witham so this walk is the perfect opportunity to enjoy scenery that you miss out on when you travel by car. It costs nothing to take part, but participants are asked to collect sponsor money or donations from family and friends.”
Councillor Pleasance added: “It is an easy and enjoyable walk along the Blackwater trail. I’ve done it before and it’s really good – lovely and peaceful. I hope lots of people join us as it’s a nice way to raise money for two great causes.”
