Havens Hospices celebrated plans to build a new hospice with a festival on Sunday 9th September.
Havens Hospices will start building a new Fair Havens Hospice in Prittlewell in October and held a Family Fun Festival to say thank you to the community for its continued support and for helping fundraise, bringing the charity’s vision of modern hospice care for Southend into a reality.
The event was held in Priory Park, which is near the site for the new Fair Havens. There was plenty to see and do throughout the day; from live music and reptile encounters to a craft fair, fairground rides, and the charity’s alternative to a fire walk – a building brick walk.
Emily Tucker, Community Engagement Officer for Havens Hospices said
"We really enjoyed celebrating ‘the next step’ in hospice care with the local community yesterday. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who supported the event – thank you to every local business, musician or dance troupe for joining us and to all our wonderful volunteers who gave their time to make the event a success.
“Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who came along to the event – the turnout was fantastic! We can only exist because of the generosity of our supporters; so it was really nice for us to be able to say thank you for all their support over the past 35 years – because without them we wouldn’t be able to continue ‘Making every day count’ for everyone who need us.
“We now have the opportunity to create a larger, modern hospice that can care for twice as many patients, offer more treatments and support more families. It was nice to give our local community a chance to find out more about the new hospice, but the main aim of the day was to have fun – which we did and we really hope everyone else did too!”
