On Sunday 1st July, a chiropractic clinic held a charity walk to raise money for their local hospice.
Staff at Life Chiropractic in Southend on Sea organised the walk to raise funds for the Havens Hospices’ ‘Fair Havens for Life – The Next Step’ appeal. The charity - which cares for children, young people and adults with life-limiting illnesses - has recently launched this appeal to raise the last monies needed to build a new adult hospice near Priory Park.
When Ailsa Darragh, Chiropractic Assistant at Life, saw the new Fair Havens appeal she suggested to the team that they should fundraise for it. She decided to organise a sponsored walk for staff along Southend Seafront from The Hope Hotel, Marine Parade to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Shoebury Common and a raffle for their clients.
“We’d been looking for a local charity to fundraise for and when I heard about the Fair Havens for Life appeal, I thought it was perfect – we’re also based in Prittlewell; so the new hospice will be a big part of our community and it just seemed a bit serendipitous that ‘Life’ is our company name, but is also part of their appeal.
“On behalf of the team, I’d like to thank all our clients, Howdens Joinery and colleagues from the Life Chiropractic group for sponsoring us. I would also like to thank Anne Marie at The Hope Hotel for kindly providing us with refreshments after our walk – after the five mile round trip in over 25 degrees they were very much appreciated!
“We also held a raffle at the clinic and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes including Southend United FC, The Saxon King, Rendezvous Casino, Leigh Tandoori Restaurant, Adventure Island, The Sea life Centre, Volume Hair Salon in Southend and Laurelle London Fragrances.
“I’m very pleased to say that because of the generosity of everyone who has supported our fundraiser, either by sponsoring us, buying a raffle ticket or even donating a prize, we have raised an amazing £950 to help Havens Hospices build a new adult hospice so they can continue providing care and support to individuals with a life limiting illness, and their families.”
Sally Bridger, Community Fundraiser for Havens Hospices said,
“On behalf of everyone at Havens Hospices, I’d like to thank the staff at Life Chiropractic; by fundraising for our Fair Havens for Life appeal you are securing the future of adult hospice care for South East Essex. We have the opportunity to create a larger, modern hospice that can care for twice as many patients, offer more treatments and support more families in a welcoming and therapeutic environment. We can only do this with the generosity of our supporters like Life Chiropractic – you truly are helping us to continue ‘Making every day count’.”
