On Thursday 17th May 2018, Southend United Football Club will welcome staff from Barclays and Southend Business Professionals who will take to the pitch for their 5th Annual football match in aid of Havens Hospices.
The teams are being managed by Blues Legend Adam Barrett and former manager Steve Tilson and spectators may even get to see the pair in action along with other former players. Younger supporters will also get a chance to test their skills at Roots Hall with a half-time Cross Bar Challenge. There will also be an auction & raffle which will include money can’t buy prizes supplied by SUFC.
Blues Manager Chris Powell recently visited Little Havens with some of the Play on the Pitch team to find out more about the charity.
“I didn’t know what to expect when I visited the hospice, but it’s an amazing place – you can see how much the staff care about helping every child, young person and adult to enjoy every moment and make incredible memories.
“The care and support that Havens give to the local community is completely free of charge and the charity has to raise over £100,000 every week in order to do this. I’m delighted that Southend United are able to help Barclays and the Southend Business professional to raise funds and awareness for this fantastic charity.
“I hope football fans get behind this great event and that this year’s Play on the Pitch raises a record amount of money for Havens.”
All proceeds raised on the night will be given to Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley, Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliff and The J’s Hospice in Witham, to help the staff continue ‘Making Every Day Count’ for babies, children, young people and adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Essex for as long as they need us.
