On Sunday 2nd September the Havens Hospices Off-Road Triathlon returns to Hadleigh Park.
Competitors will take on a 400m lake swim followed by a 14K cycle across the lovely Hadleigh Downs and finishing with 5k run over the famous Olympic mountain bike course. Individual triathletes, triathlon clubs and groups or teams are all encouraged to take part and raise money for Havens Hospices.
Havens Hospices cares for adults, young people and children across Essex with life-limiting illnesses, by controlling pain, offering short-breaks and giving end of life care. We do not charge a penny for any of the care and support we provide and receive very little government funding; so rely on the generosity of the local community to do this.
Last year’s winning team - colleagues Darren Clarke, Lee Styles and Dean McCormack from Rickard Luckin accountants decided to sign up following a tour of Little Havens Hospice.
Darren Clarke, Associate at Rickard Luckin said
“The care and support Havens provide to adults, young people, children and their families across Essex is completely free of charge, which means they need to raise an awful lot of money, over £100,000 a week;so we wanted to help fundraise for them.
“When we saw that they were bringing an Off-Road Triathlon to the Southend area last year we had to do it; the event was fantastic and it was great that we could take part as a team; the route was really well marshalled, we were cheered along all the way round. You can take part in this event whether you’re an athlete, an amatuer team who want to take part in one activity each or tackle the whole course together or looking for a fun challenge to take part in – I’d highly recommend it. I’m hoping that we can take part this year and retain our crown!”
Jane Hopkins, Event Fundraiser, said
“We got a fantastic response from the triathletes and teams who took part last year; so we decided to bring the Off-Road Tri back for a second year. We are looking forward to welcoming both previous and new triathletes.Havens can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters and fundraisers. By taking part in September every triathlete will be helping another adult or child living with a serious illness be as pain fee and comfortable as possible. They will truly be helping us be there for as long as we’re need and continue to fulfil our promise of ‘Making every day count’ for hundreds of families across Essex.”
Registration is now open for this event and we are offering an early bird offer giving both individual triathletes and teams of three a £5 discount until 30th April 2018. You can complete the course either as an individual, as part of a group or as a team of three like Rickard Luckin. For more information or to register click here.
