Family and loved ones of those who have died are being invited to remember them this Christmas at special services held by Havens Hospices.
The charity’s annual Light up a Life appeal gives people the chance to dedicate a light in memory of someone close to them who has died. Christmas trees displayed at Little Havens and Fair Havens will then be decorated with lights throughout December with each light representing the life of someone who has died. Services will also take place across Southend, with prayers, carols and time for reflection with the lighting of a candle.
The services will be held on;
Saturday 2nd December, 4pm at St Mary’s Church, Southend
Sunday 3rd December, 4pm at Hadleigh Salvation Army Temple
Wednesday 6th December, 6:15pm at Knightswick Centre, Canvey Island
Thursday 7th December, 7:30pm at Chelmsford Cathedral (held by The J’s Hospice)
Saturday 9th December, 3pm at Southend Crematorium
Sharon Davies who heads up the Light up a Life appeal at Havens Hospices, said,
“Christmas can be an incredibly difficult time for anyone who has had someone close to them die, whether it is a friend or family member. The Light up a Life appeal is a really nice way to remember that special person to you at Christmas time.
“You don’t need to have experienced hospice care to dedicate a light. Anyone can join in and you’ll be coming together with others in the community remembering loved ones while ‘Making every day count’ for everyone we care for this Christmas; so thank you”
In return for a donation, the charity will send tags for people to write a message to their loved one on and to hang on their tree, or they can either be returned to the hospice to hang on the tree in the Chapel. Those wanting to make a dedication can donate any amount and remember any number of people.
