MKM Building Supplies, Chelmsford, raised £5000 at their “Evening with the 2 Tony’s” at Chelmsford City Football Club on Friday June 23rd in aid of Little Havens.
Mark Ward, Branch Director, visited Little Havens earlier in the year and was so moved by the work Little Havens does and how the hospice operates that he immediately decided to set up an event to raise vital funds. MKM Chelmsford wanted to host a charity ball, but with a twist given the industry that they operate in.
The event they organised was an “Evening with the 2 Tony’s” - West Ham Legends Tony Cottee and Tony Gale; the 130 guests were also joined by BBC Radio Essex’s Drive Time presenter who hosted the auction. There was also a hog roast, magician and disco.
Mark Ward, Branch Director MKM Building Supplies, said:
“After visiting Little Havens Hospice, I was extremely moved and uplifted by the work they do. All the volunteers and staff are truly all about ‘Making every day count’ for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Essex. I want to thank everyone who both helped and also attended the ball, to everyone who donated items to the auction, Chris for holding it and for everyone who bid on the night. I also want to thank the two Tony’s for coming along to the event and speaking; it was a fantastic night, with lots of laughs and a few tears!”
Claire Wilson, Community Fundraiser Havens Hospices said,
“On behalf of everyone at Little Havens Hospice, I’d like to thank everyone involved in this event. We must raise over £46,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs us, helping control pain and medication, offering short breaks and caring for children at the end of their lives. Little Havens can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters like Mark and his team at MKM Chelmsford.”
