Anita started volunteering at her local Little Havens Hospice shop in January 2017 after making the decision to go part time at work.
“I decided to volunteer with Little Havens Hospice because I had a few hours to spare each week. My daughter was a volunteer a few years ago when she was still at school and she loved it and I always thought it would be something I would do when I had the time.
“My day volunteering at the Little Havens Hospice shop includes sorting the donated items, labelling and pricing them. Clothes are all steamed before they go on the shop floor so I sort the clothes to be steamed. I serve customers at the till and help rotate the stock so that the shelves are always full of lovely clothes, handbags, shoes, books, DVDs, toys, bric-a-brac and much, much more. You will be amazed at the treasures to be found if you look hard enough!
“I love volunteering in the Little Havens Hospice shop. My favourite part is serving the customers on the till. They are just so happy and it's a lovely feeling helping them to find a bargain! The best thing though is working with the other volunteers and staff in the shop. It's a pleasure to work with like-minded people and they are all so kind, friendly and helpful. We are a great team!!
“I feel volunteering is important in many ways. It's a great way to help others. It boosts your confidence as you learn new skills and gain experience. It's challenging and rewarding and it enables you to get to know the local community. If you have a few hours a week to spare and thinking of volunteering I would say do it, it’s such a rewarding experience. You meet new friends, feel valued and part of a team. Helping others is one of the greatest gifts you can give and it will bring a smile to your face as it has to mine and also in need of our help.”
