On Friday 28th April, the pupils of Alleyn Court took to their school field to take part in four marathon relays to raise money for Little Havens Hospice. The pupils aged 5 – 11 completed the 26.2 mile relay race in their house teams; Pearsons, Rankins, Tremaynes and Williams.
The marathon was split into 64 laps of 760m around Alleyn Court’s playing field and every pupil in the school ran throughout the day. House Captain’s Zara, Evie, Thomas and Lenny were in charge of team strategy and ensuring that all the pupils knew when they were running.
All four houses completed their marathons in less than 4 hours; Pearsons’ completed their marathon in the fastest time with year six pupil Samual Birdsall the final runner crossing the line after 3 hours and 22 minutes.
Noel Smith, Director of Sport & Activities at Alleyn Court, said
“We regularly fundraise for charities; but we wanted our pupils to help a local charity rather than a larger national charity for this particular event.
“We chose Little Havens Hospice because we wanted our pupils to see that there are other children in their local community who are less fortunate than them. We wanted our children to understand that anyone can be affected by life-limiting illnesses and that by supporting local charities they can make a difference in their community.
“We are immensely proud of all of the children who took part in the marathon on Friday and really grateful to all the parents who have sponsored the children and helped us raise £4000 so far and in turn will be helping Little Havens Hospice continue ‘Making every day count’ for babies, children and their families across Essex.”
