virtual races organiser offers an alternative for the southend marathon in support of havens hospices

The owner of a virtual races company, Medal Run, has offered to run a month long virtual marathon in support of Havens Hospices in March.

Lisa Allix, Owner of Medal Run, explained

“I’m a keen runner myself and have taken part in Havens Hospices’ events in the past. I was saddened by the recent news regarding the postponement of the Southend Marathon and the loss of vital funds that would have been raised for Havens Hospices. I understand the cost and time put into organising events like this and wanted to find a way to support the charity and raise some of the money that they will have lost due to the cancellation. I spoke to Havens Hospices and as they already had their medals I offered to stage a virtual marathon during March. We are charging £15 to enter +£1.50p&p, the full £15 will go to Havens Hospices. However, any runners who have already donated their entry fee to the charity will not have to pay to race.”

The race will open at 12:01am on the 1st March and will close at 11:59pm 31st March.

There are 600 places for the virtual marathon and participants have the whole month to complete their marathon (26.2 miles). They just need to keep a record of their run(s) via a training app or sports watch and send that information to Medal Run when they’ve completed their marathon to receive an official Run to Remember medal! Runners who complete the marathon in one run will receive a medal and a Run to Remember T-Shirt. Although this is a virtual race it hasn’t lost its competitive edge as all results/rankings will be available 5 days after the race closes.

Judy Grocott, Events Manager at Havens Hospices, said,

“We’ve been so grateful for all of the kind messages of support we have received over the last week. The generosity demonstrated by the runners, existing supporters and new supporters of the charity has been really rather humbling. We are really lucky to have such fantastic supporters like Lisa who go out of their way to help our charity.”
