light up a life for your loved ones this christmas

26 October 2016

Family and loved ones of those who have died are being invited to remember them this Christmas at special services held by Havens Hospices.

Havens Hospices' annual Light up a Life appeal gives people the chance to dedicate a light in memory of someone close to them who has died. Christmas trees displayed at Little Havens and Fair Havens will then be decorated with lights throughout December with each light representing the life of someone who has died.  Services will also take place across Southend, with prayers, carols and time for reflection with the lighting of a candle and Books of Remembrance will be on display with the names of those being remembered this Christmas time.

The services will be held on;

Saturday 3rd December, 4pm at St Mary’s Church, Southend

Sunday 4th December, 4pm at Hadleigh Salvation Army Temple

Wednesday 7th December, 5.45pm at Knightswick Centre, Canvey Island

Saturday 10th December, 3pm at Southend Crematorium

Caroline Fryer, Bereavement and Family Support Team Co-ordinator at Havens Hospices, said,

“Christmas can be an incredibly difficult time for anyone who has had someone close to them die, whether it is a friend or family member. The Light up a Life appeal is a really nice way to remember that special person to you at Christmas time.”

In return for a donation, the charity will send tags for people to write a message to their loved one on and to hang on their tree, or they can either be returned to the hospice to hang on the tree in the Chapel. Those wanting to make a dedication can donate any amount and remember any number of people, but only names received before Wednesday 16th November will be included in the Books of Remembrance.
