Fair Havens Hospice will be throwing open their doors this weekend and inviting the public in.
Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliff is hosting an Open Doors event on Saturday 10th September between 11am and 3pm for people to visit and have a tour of the hospice and the grounds and find out more about the charity which provides respite and end of life care to seriously ill adults in Southend, Castle Point and Rochford.
As well as looking around the hospice there will be entertainment in the form of singers and dancers and stalls with tombolas and gifts for sale.
Fair Havens Ward Sister, Louise McKay, says,
“There are many preconceptions about hospice care and what we do here at Fair Havens. Within the actual In Patient Unit, many of our patients are admitted to help control their pain and review their medication. Approximately 47% of our patients return home after their visit, staying for an average of 12 days.
“Of course, end of life care does happen at a hospice and we provide post bereavement support for families, but there is also a lot of fun and laughter that happens here.
“It is this side of the hospice that we want to show the local community and to give them a better understanding of what we provide here and why it is so important that people continue to support us. Because without them we simply couldn’t care for the number of adults who need our care.”
