charity opens entries to muddy challenge

25 July 2016

Havens Hospices is holding its second Island to Island Mud Run from Bell Wharf in Old Leigh on Saturday 27th August. The one mile course will see people tackling waist high mud and water as they make their way out across the Thames Estuary to Two Tree Island and back.

The charity, which cares for seriously ill adults and children at its two hospices, Fair Havens and Little Havens, hopes to raise over £20,000 from the event.

Havens Hospices Events Fundraiser Susie May, says, “The Island to Island Mud Run is a fantastic way to support a great local charity. The full route is one mile and is for over 16 only as it is a real challenge to power through the mud which is going to be really thick in places. We do have a smaller 400m route for families to take part in as well so there is something for everyone – it’s going to be great fun.”

Havens Hospices provides respite, symptom management and end of life care to those with life limiting conditions across Essex. This care is completely free of charge and the charity must raise £100,000 each week to continue caring for people when they need it most.

Entry to the Island to Island Mud Run main route is £20 each, a family ticket for the fun run route is £30 based on two adults and two children, an adult ticket for the fun run route is £10 and children are £8. Groups of six or more for the main route are £15 per person.
