A homewares and gift store has raised hundreds of pounds for Little Havens Hospice by having a ‘Bit of a Do’ for the Queen’s birthday.
Home Sweet Home in Hornchurch held a ‘Bit of a Royal Do’ in celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday on Saturday 11th June with a cake stall outside the shop and raised £350 for Little Havens Hospice, which cares for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses from across Essex.
Shop owners Lee and Suzy Blackledge, who also own Tiptoes Shoe Repairs a couple of doors down, encourage their customers, friends and family to do the same. In 2014 the couple’s son, Kane, raised almost £1,500 by doing a skydive for the hospice for his 16th birthday.
“We are delighted to support the amazing work of Little Havens Hospice. We know that they care for local families and as a business owner we wanted to say thank you to Little Havens for the wonderful work they do. Our customers really enjoyed the Royal atmosphere on the day and I hope Her Majesty enjoyed herself as much on her big day as we did fundraising for Little Havens.
“I want to say thank you to our staff, family and friends who donated cakes and especially Godfreys Bakers in the High St for donating some lovely cakes too. And thanks of course must go to our customers who so generously contributed and enjoyed all our delicious goodies on offer – we were delighted to have raised such a great sum for the hospice.”
Community Fundraiser for Little Havens, Peter Hall, says,
“I would like to thank Suzy and Lee for holding a ‘Royal Do’ in honour of the Queen and to raise money for Little Havens. At the hospice we provide respite and end of life care for children and their family, completely free of charge and that’s only possible because of donations made by people in the community. By supporting their local hospice, people like Suzy and Lee are helping a baby, child or teenager living with a serious illness be as pain free and comfortable as possible. Together, we’re ‘Making every day count’ for those we care for.”
